Nisqually Valley News September 23, 1943

The annual Teacher’s Reception is a happy memory for those who were fortunate enough to attend. Held in the attractive new Yelm school auditorium, the beauty of the stage was accented by three lovely floral pieces, gifts of the Yelm Garden Club.

Greeting the guests were Mr. Florine Bradly, Mrs. David Day, and Mrs. H.E. Wolf, who pinned the name and a dainty boutonnière upon each honor guest. Mrs. William Merz and Mrs. Art Justmen preside at the refreshment table. Mrs. J.S. Miller was the mistress of ceremonies and presented Miss Mary Lou O’Bryan, director of music who announced three numbers by the High School Band which were very well received. Mrs. Miller then presented Mayor E.K. Fristoe, who welcomed the teachers for the people of the community and stressed cooperation between the home and the school. Rev. And Mrs. Magnus Udd were then presented in the pleasing vocal duet with an accordion compliment. Rev. Udd and Rev. George Huber each gave most pleasing addresses of welcome and urged the teachers to take part in the church and community life.

O.L. Montgomery, superintendent of School District No. 400, with his usual charm introduced the school principals, J.M. Johnson, of McKenna, Harry Southworth, Yelm grade school, and Frank Bower of the high school, who in turn introduced their teachers. All present were glad to welcome back the former teachers and to extend greetings to the new ones.

Refreshments were enjoyed in the Domestic Science rooms, which were also attractively decorated with floral arrangements.
